May 2011

Old BFE has visited us twice at the lodge, once during the day and once at night with the entire herd, Luckily there were guests in camp both times it was great dodging BFE!! collecting and dropping off guests became an adventure.

BFE may have discoloured a ritual offering dining plate, consisting of fruit for the birds. Which may become somewhat of a problem. The poor birds will go hungry.

28 October 2010
BFE has been seen hanging around with the breeding herd a lot more now.

14 October 2010
We have had a few close encounters with BFE, including this morning’s game drive, where his tusk was less than a metre from the ranger’s face, as BFE studied everyone in the game vehicle.

6th October 2010

BFE’s last visit a week ago resulted in our aloes being further reduced, the rain gauge being knocked off the boma wall and various trees getting a late pruning.

2nd July 2010
During the past couple of weeks, we have had some great sightings of BFE. His tracks were spotted just below the lodge and were followed for about 30 minutes, until we came across him just 30 metres from the road. He was also sighted from close range on 2 other game drives.

The highlight of the past few weeks was another visit by BFE to the lodge, where he once again “Pruned” our trees, drank all the water in the pond and demolished the succulent plants.

Click on the small pictures below to see the big pictures of me in action! You can also ask mom and dad to help you upload any pictures that you took of me to the site to share with others.

I am orginally from the Sabi Sabi Game Reserve.

I was born in April 1963 which means I am 47 years old!

I weight about 6 & ½ thousand kilograms!!

I only have 1 tusk! I was in a fight with another elephant and lost my tusk. My tusks are very useful tools, I can use them for lifting, carrying and digging.

I love walking on the roads, pulling out trees and turning them upside down and playing with the radio aerials on the game vehicles.

I sleep standing up or lying down (maybe you'll hear me snoring when you come visit)

Click on the below images or writing to download your very own colouring in picture of elephants just like me! Colour it in and stick it on your wall or take a picture and send it to me!

STEP 1
Draw a circle for the head (start close to the top of the paper to leave room for the rest of the body). Draw a larger circle behind and to the right of the head. This will be the body. The legs are 4 triangles. The two legs that are in front are complete triangles. The two legs in back will be half triangles because they are behind the front legs.
STEP 2
Draw the ears as ovals. You can make them as large as you want or as small as you want. Draw the trunk as a noodle, it should start about halfway across the head.
STEP 3
Make a guideline halfway down the head. This will help you draw the elephant's eyes. The eyes are two circles. Place dots in the eyes for eyeballs. Draw the elephant's tusks, they are two triangles pointing slightly away from the trunk, don't forget Beffy only has one but you can draw two if you want! Give the elephant a little curly tail, with a little bit of fringe at the end.

STEP 4
Darken the outside lines. You can use a pencil, or maybe a pen, marker, or crayon. The ear that is in front should overlap the elephant's head a little bit. The elephant's trunk is his nose, so don't forget to make a small oval at the end with small dots for nostrils. Give him a small tuft of hair on his forhead.

STEP 5
The elephant has baggy skin, so add some wrinkles to his trunk and his body. The feet have nobb toenails on them that you can make as upside-down "U"s. Give the elphant cute twirly kneecaps

STEP 6
Now, rub out all of your guiding lines.
Congratulations, you have now completed your very own Beefy drawing! Now all you have to do is colour Beefy in! Colour him whatever colour you want, and remember to have fun!
